Reaction Time Test

Wait for the screen to turn green, then click as fast as you can. You get five tries and we average them. Click too early on red and that try doesn't count.

How the reaction time test works

When you start, the screen turns red — that's your cue to wait. After a random delay it flips to green, and a timer starts the instant it does. Click as fast as you can and we measure the gap in milliseconds. The delay is random every time so you can't guess it; if you click while it's still red, we flag it as “too soon” and let you redo that try. After five clean tries we average them into your score.

You can react with a mouse, a tap, or the spacebar — whichever is fastest for you. The average is what counts, so one unlucky try won't wreck your result.

What is a good reaction time?

The average person clicks about 270 milliseconds after the screen turns green. That number includes the time for your eyes to see the change, your brain to process it, and your finger to move — so there's a floor to how low anyone can go. Here's the rough scale:

  • Over 330 ms — Snail to Turtle. Tired, distracted, or just warming up.
  • 240 to 280 ms — Rabbit. Right around the human average.
  • 200 to 240 ms — Cheetah to Falcon. Sharp and focused.
  • Under 200 ms — Lightning. Genuinely fast reflexes.

How to improve your reaction time

Most of your score is simply how alert you are, so the biggest gains come from the basics: take the test rested, cut distractions, and watch for the colour change instead of trying to predict it. Anticipating the green feels faster but usually leads to “too soon” misfires that hurt your average. A little practice smooths out your timing, but nobody trains their way past human biology.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good reaction time?

About 270 ms is average. Under 250 ms is quick, and under 200 ms is very fast.

What is the average reaction time?

For clicking when a screen turns green, most people average roughly 250 to 300 ms, around 270 ms in the middle.

Why did it say “too soon”?

You clicked while the screen was still red. That try doesn't count — just click again to retry it.

How can I get faster?

Stay relaxed and alert, react to the change rather than guessing it, and take the test when you're rested.
